Probably seen the Covenant coming and wanted to focous on them. On top of that, Samus isn't exactly the kind that would hold back, if that was a failed attempt to block her, she wouldn't have turned off that laser sword/whip of hers. Also, there would have been more of a struggle to get back up than simply lying there. __________________________________________________

You could tell the guy knew what he was doing on both sides when Samus's original strategy was the "charged Ice Beam + Super Missile combo", then the missile was deflected.
