What's his body fat percentage? Messure it and then see how it compares to acceptable levels for someone his age. Also, if he wants muscle, he needs to lift weights and/or do sports. The problem with many kids today is that they don't do sports or any sort of activities and just sit around the house playing video games. If he does sports and doesn't eat junk food, he'll be just fine. Good habits start young.
