Description:

My contribution in response to websnarf's idea. Part 2 of 2, and the meat of my story, I guess. Part 1 is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwKfRlNpBHU I actually still have the essay I wrote for the philosophy of science class. I'll post the relevant portion here, even though it's a wee bit embarrassing. "One possible problem Darwin faces in arguing his case is the difficulty archaeologists and biologists have locating "missing links" between species to show that gradual change between species is indeed taking place. In addition to this logistical quandary, Darwin also risked criticism from his contemporaries, many of whom presumably had difficulty discarding religious notions about the origins of life or idealistic suppositions that man is in some way special among life forms. In spite of the difficulties that confronted Darwin, many of which are still being bandied about today, his work stands as one of the most important large-scale scientific inquiries into the origin of species." o_O

So you were influenced by your professor and his personal beliefs. Think for yourself. The professor well thats HIS problem.

Alas, (if you can use 'bandied about', I can use 'alas') when talk moves to evolution, they insist that even if it doesn't make sense (scientific or common), the genesis account(s) are correct. Ditto the ark, resurrection, & Lot (what I say is the danger of living near an active volcano). It was once stated that smart people may not be capable of belief. *sigh* whatever happened to irony?

On the folly of conforming to the bible, my friends offer a naive, but promising rationale: it can't be taken literally. At first it seems the faith-before-reason mindset is ready to submit beliefs to the evidentiary requirements of scientific inquiry.
